The Military Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Defense received a donation of medicines and equipment for fighting COVID-19 to the value of about €31,000 from Romania, IPN reports.

Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță, in the handover ceremony, said this approach confirms Romania’s commitment to support the citizens of the Republic of Moldova by alleviating the effects of the pandemic crisis. The donation consists of 50 boxes of “Clorom” of 200 tablets each, 1,000 protective suits, 1,000 FFP2 face masks, 500 protective visors, 500 liters of rubbing alcohol and 2,000 surgical masks.

According to the diplomat, the donation is one more proof of the fact that Romania keeps its word. Daniel Ioniță reiterated the measures of the Romanian support package intended for Moldovan citizens that was announced by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis during his official visit to Chisinau on December 29, 2020. The package is aimed at ensuring the swift conclusion of the sixth additional Protocol to the Bilateral Agreement on Grant Funding to the value of €100 million, which extends the validity period of the Agreement and the areas of cooperation.

Daniel Ioniță said Romania will provide about 200,000 anti-COVID shots to Moldova and will send a team of Romanian experts to Chisinau to help prepare the vaccination strategy. “We will continue to offer support so as to strengthen civil society and the independence of the mass media in the Republic of Moldova by making a new financial contribution in 2021, at least equal to that made in November 2020, respectively €250,000. We will initiate profounder cooperation in the justice sector and the fight against corruption,” noted the ambassadors.

Ala Nemernco, adviser on health to the President of the Republic of Moldova, said the defense system by its staff is a very important element in the fight against COVID-19, which should be used to give an appropriate response in such situations as the pandemic. The service members are those who can intervene immediately in different situations.

Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc said the donation is a clear example that Romania was and is a valuable partner that contributes, by different means, to strengthening the bilateral relations in the defense sector.
