“So far the Moldovan investment legislation does not offer guarantees for those who intend to invest in successful economic areas”, Romanian Foreign Minster Mihai Razvan Ungureanu declared on a private visit to Chişinău the last weekend. Ungureanu has avoided the term „frail” while speaking about the Moldovan legal system, describing it as “hesitating.” Within the same context, he wondered how someone can invest in business here, knowing that the amount of his investment competes with the amount of the bribe he has to give to officials. These things, he said, work so far against prosperity and „only society’s reaction could wake up from indolence a bureaucracy comfortable with such kind of system”. When Romania joins the EU, Moldova will have a fantastic economic opportunity because the land prices in Romania will align to the EU ones, while the land in Moldova will be relatively cheap, said Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu. Because of that, Moldova will become more attractive from the investment point of view and it would be a pity if, at the moment this thing will happen, Moldova is not ready. That will be the moment that could represent the change of Moldova’s economic destiny. The fact that Moldova is in a provisory situation regarding energy supplies, this should make the officials think about „ changing pipe ends from the East to the West,” the Romanian Foreign Minister added, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
