The Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) decided to combine forces for the 2018 parliamentary elections as part of a platform of the anti-oligarchic European forces. This consolidated platform aims to be an authentic pro-European and anti-oligarchic force for the voters. At the same time, a rigorous filter will be created for the legislative elections of 2018 to test the candidates who will be fielded or supported by the platform of the European forces, deputy chairman of the PAS Mihai Popsoi said in the public debate “Starting position of political parties and potential independent candidates on alternative pro-European platform before the electoral year” that was staged by IPN News Agency.
Mihai Popsoi noted the decision to create a platform between the PAS and the PPPDA for the upcoming elections was partially imposed by the circumstances that appeared as a result of the introduction of the mixed-member electoral system. “Thus, the authentic pro-European and anti-oligarchic forces of the right should unite so as not to disperse the votes and be competitive in single-member constituencies and to fight against the Party of Socialists and the Democratic Party. If the forces of the righty remain divided, the next parliamentary elections are doomed to failure,” said the politician. According to him, the results of last year’s presidential elections are a model of cooperation of the political right, between the PAS and PPPDA, as a result of which Maia Sandu polled the largest number of votes ever won by the right in Moldova.
He noted that the platform that is being formed is open to other political forces and other politicians and to public figures who do not represent parties. They already anticipate the appearance of several more center-right parties at the start of next year and the goal of these would be to steal votes. “Regardless of the efforts of those with evil interests, the newly-created platform aims to become a powerful one so that the voters with pro-European and anti-oligarchic views no longer wonder who to vote for,” said the PAS deputy chairman.
Speaking about the platform, Mihai Popsoi said that they are now working on technical aspects so that they launch the competition in single-member constituencies as soon as possible. An integrity filter will be introduced for fielded or supported candidates. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on integrity so as to minimize the possible risks of corrupting these because attempts to corrupt will definitely be made.
The public debate “Starting position of political parties and potential independent candidates on alternative pro-European platform before the electoral year” is the 81st installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
The next debate entitled “Starting position of political parties and potential independent before the electoral year” will take place in the conference hall of IPN News Agency on November 24, starting at 2pm. This will involve representatives of the unionist dimension of the political landscape.
