MP of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Mihai Popșoi said the Moldovan authorities made no request to the United States to extradite former Democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc. Moreover, the case featuring this wasn’t finalized. However, Vladimip Plahotniuc will be forced to leave the U.S. where he is allegedly at present, IPN reports.

“There are internal struggles in the prosecution service. Some of the prosecutors who started particular cases leave and others come. We don’t know what is being done there,” the MP stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on Jurnal TV channel.

According to him, if an application for extradition is made, this will most probably be challenged in courts in the U.S., according to procedures. “I’m inclined to believe that Plahotniuc will be forced to leave the U.S. when he will be denied political asylum. It is known that he asked for political asylum in the U.S. When this application is rejected, Plahotniuc will have to leave as he does not have a visa to stay in the U.S.,” said Mihai Popșoi.

Public policy expert Ștefan Gligor said the extradition is made at the request of the state on whose territory the person committed an offense. “Vladimir Plahotniuc is accused of an offense committed on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. He is accused of money laundering. He can be extradited by a court decision based on which his extradition is requested from the state on whose territory he is traced. The extradition is requested after the person is put on the wanted list and is tracked down,” he explained.

According to the expert, the authorities haven’t yet announced that they traced Vladimir Plahotniuc so as to file the extradition application.
