The chairperson of the Inquiry Commission for the elucidation of the factual and legal circumstances regarding the attempt of unconstitutional coup undertaken by the Democratic Party of Moldova through the Constitutional Court and the General Prosecutor's Office, Mihai Popșoi, claimed that in June, when the Democratic Party refused to transfer power, the former leader of the Democrats, Vladimir Plahotniuc, ordered the National Army not to submit to the new government. The deputy said that he learned about this from the statements of the Army commanders, during commission hearings.
"I do not exaggerate when I say that we were on the brink of war. It could have been bloodshed because Plahotniuc, without the right to do so, was ordering the National Army command staff and was giving them political instructions. We learned about this thanks to the statements of the National Army leaders", said Mihai Popșoi in the TV8 show "Politica Nataliei Morari". According to the chairman, Plahotniuc ordered both the Army and the Ministry of Interior to take the side of the Filip government.
The MP argued that the Parliamentary Commission report on the coup attempt will be made public in the near future. At the same time, the report will be forwarded to the General Prosecutor's Office. However, the MP claimed that since a criminal investigation on this matter is already carried out, most likely, prosecutors won't find anything new from the Commission's report.
Democratic MP Nicolae Ciubuc stated that PDM members will not participate in the hearings organized by the Commission, because it is exclusively composed of members of the ruling coalition. According to him, this is evidence that the Commission is politically partisan and its activity is not driven by the objective to enforce the law. "We can conclude the verdict of the Commission from its name. We are ready to communicate and to collaborate with investigative bodies in this regard and to present all our arguments, including the legal arguments that motivated our decisions”, said the MP.
In his opinion, the Commission aims to confuse the society and to distract attention from daily problems such as low salaries and pensions, which the citizens of Moldova expect to be addressed. Nicolae Ciubuc claimed that the Parliamentary Commission on the coup attempt is, in fact, an anti-PDM commission.
Recently, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, former deputy chief of the General Police Inspectorate, the head of the Special Courier Bureau, Valeriu Cemîrtan, and the chairman of the Prosecutors' Association, Alexandru Gladco, were interviewed by the Commission.
