Deputy chairman of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Mihai Popsoi said the democratic values represent the European Union’s foundation and these values include the rule of law, political and economic competition, freedom of the media, non-politicized institutions and non-selective justice. “The PDM, which proposed amending the Constitution and stipulating the irreversibility of the European course, is known for its non-efficient fight against corruption, which is fought in an artistic way only,” Popsoi stated in the public debate “Eastern model and Western model for Moldova: differences, advantages, disadvantages. Chances of “Third Way” that was staged by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova.
“This party is known for the lack of efficient measures to fight corruption, which is fought only in an artistic way as fishing – when you catch a fish, you take one or two pictures of this and release it back into the water. This is the approach in the fight against corruption led by the Democratic Party - especially if the fish has some red roses on its forehand, this gets off easily. These are not values of the European Union. The people, regrettably, die in detention and this is not a European value either. The people who are to blame for the death of citizen Boboc on April 7, 2009 were promoted to posts by the government of the Democratic Party,” stated Mihai Popsoi.
In another development, the politician said the European Union’s Gross Domestic Product is of about US$ 20 trillion, while that of the Eurasian Union totals not at least US$ 2 trillion. The largest Russian company “Sberbank” has a market capitalization of US$ 63 billion, while the second largest Russian company “Gazprom” of US$ 52 billion. An American company, not at least the biggest one, which makes animated cartoons, has a capitalization of US$ 178 billion. Also, the purchasing power in the EU is incomparable and no state can compete with the EU’s economic potential.
“The European Union is a world leader in the imposition of quality, origin, technical, phytosanitary and any other kinds of standards. Russia applies yet the Soviet GOST system of standards and one cannot go far with this. The EU is a leader in this field,” stated Mihai Popsoi. According to him, the integration into the Eurasian Union will be nothing else but the return to the Soviet Union. “Mister Putin repeatedly said that the dismemberment or collapse of the Soviet Union was the biggest catastrophe of the 20th century. Thus, this effort to integrate into the former Soviet Union is a wish by the revanchist, imperialist Russia to rebuild and wash away that shame of the collapse of the Soviet Union,” said the PAS deputy head.
Mihai Popsoi also said that the ‘Moldovan model’ about which other participants in the debate spoke is an interesting and possibly innovative approach. But the Romanian neighbors or other former members of the Soviet Union, such as the Baltic States, didn’t look for a Latvian, Lithuanian or Estonian model and chose a sustainable model that was close to them – the European one – and implemented this with difficulty, but succeeded.
The public debate “Eastern model and Western model for Moldova: differences, advantages, disadvantages. Chances of “Third Way” was the 77th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
