The danger of floods in localities on the bank of the Proute river was remedied, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the chief of the concern Apele Moldovei, Mihai Pincov, who assured that the flow of water in the Proute river is normal again. However, 400 cubic metres of water per second have been earlier evacuated from the accumulation lake in Costesti-Stanca in order to prevent floods. Pincov says that he made the decision on massive evacuation of water, though the Romanian side insists that the evacuation of water from the Proute river be stopped, so that the Danube not to exceed the riverbed. Instead, Pincov continued, Moldova was not affected by floods. He underlined that the permanent activity aimed to direct the water from the Proute and Dniester rivers in January-March maintained the level of water under control. Thus, the meadows of the two rivers are in a normal condition and there is water in some depression, which will be absorbed by earth and will be evaporate one the weather gets warmer, Pincov added. Now the flow of the Proute river is by 1.5-2 metres higher than before thawing of snow, while of the Dniester river is by 2.5-3 metres higher. Specialists of the concern Apele Moldovei forecast the second wave of floods this year for late May – early June, when it will rain in the Carpathian Mountains.
