First vice president of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Mihai Godea will run for the mayoralty of Chisinau as an independent candidate. The announcement was made by Godea in a news conference at Info-Prim Neo on May 3. “From this moment, I start my own political campaign. I do it because I have a moral obligation towards the residents of Chisinau as they must have a viable alternative. The fact that they are forced to choose between a manifestation of incapacity and superficiality, which marked the administration of Chisinau during the last four years, one the one hand and the Communist lie on the other hand is a sacrifice,” said Mihai Godea. He also said that it wasn't easy for him to take the decision to run independently, but he cannot ignore the hopes of the thousands of people whom he met during the last years and whom he assured that their hopes are the PLDM's creed. According to Mihai Godea, during two years the Alliance for European Integration did not manage to reform the main sectors of the state – the legal system continues to be controlled, while the economy is trampled underfoot. “The Alliance for European Integration, which intended to be the most viable alternative to the Communist Party, became older and confuse. The hopes of hundreds of thousands of people are close to being disappointed, while the dreams of those who sincerely believed in the triumph of morality were ruined. The Moldovan people deserve more,” he said. Mihai Godea stressed that he wants to accuse nobody and aims only to act independently. Asked by the journalists if he intends to leave the PLDM, he said that he has not yet taken such a decision, but he can be dismissed only by the party's congress and the primary organization of the PLDM.
