The chairman of the Democratic Action Party Mihai Godea announced he will dispute the method of electing the head of state on December 16 in the Constitutional Court (CC), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The statement was made after Tudor Deliu, head of the special commission for the presidential elections, presented in Parliament a draft decision saying the head of state wasn’t elected owing to the insufficient number of votes.
Mihai Godea said he does not agree with the fact that the MPs had to show the ballots before putting them in the ballot box. “The lawmakers must be an example of legality and obey the law and the Constitution. As a Member of Parliament, outside any political games, I reserve the right to challenge the method of electing the President of Moldova in the Constitutional Court,” said Mihai Godea.
”The only goal of such a move is to make the lawmakers to observe the constitutional norms,” he added. If the CC rules that this method of holding the elections is unconstitutional, the December 16 elections will be annulled.
Liberal MP Victor Popa said the secrecy of the vote was ensured as it is cast in the polling booth, while outside it the lawmakers can do what they want.
On December 16, the MPs of the AEI showed the ballots when going out of the polling booths, at the suggestion of Marian Lupu.
