The Liberal Party’s candidate for the office of President of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu announced that he will withdraw from the presidential race if the join candidate of the center-right opposition Maia Sandu promotes a point from his electoral program, which is Moldova’s union with Romania, IPN reports.
“It should be clear for all those who were near me in this struggle for the Romania cause. I’m ready to withdraw from the race for the presidency in favor of the join candidate if this undertakes publicly and in written form to promote my objective – the union of the Republic of Moldova and the mother country Romania. Until I receive an answer, I will remain a candidate for President so as to continue the struggle for the national ideal,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
On October 26, the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu announced that he decided to withdraw from the race for the presidency in favor of the pro-European candidate with bigger chances of winning the elections Maia Sandu.
