Mihai Ghimpu: We no longer have what to concede

We no longer have what to concede because we conceded everything and even gave up the idea of reviewing the country’s status of neutrality, the head of the PL Mihai Ghimpu said in the evening of January 13, after a new round of negotiations on the formation of a government coalition, IPN reports.

Ghimpu confirmed that the new round ended again with no result and accused the leaders of the PDM and PLDM of this. “They do not walk on ground and we thus cannot achieve results. We demand that the post of prosecutor general should be occupied by a foreign person. If we cannot fight corruption, we should invite somebody from outside to come and help us. We insist on the depoliticization of the law enforcement bodies,” he stated.

Referring to the discussions initiated by the PLDM and PDM with the PCRM, Ghimpu said that it is an attempt by the first two parties to push the PL to the opposition. “The fact that they started discussions with the PCRM does not affect our wish to have a democratic government. The fact that they discuss with the PCRM concerns us, but does not scare us,” he stated.

He described the accusations made by the leaders of the PDM and PLDM against him as speculative. “The PL does not claim posts. The three main positions in the state are political posts and they should be divided between the parties that will rule the country. But the discussions didn’t reach this stage as a formula could not be found,” he said.

The Liberal leader informed that a new round of talks will be held in the evening of January 14 and the Liberals will attend it, but he said that he is pessimistic about the success of these new negotiations.
