Presenting the report “Liberal Party – one year of participation in governance”, the party’s chairman Mihai Ghimpu explained why the PL voted the Filip Government together with 14 MPs who left the Party of Communists.
“We said that we will never form a coalition with former Communists. However, if you remember, the MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova pursued then the goal of saving Vlad Filat, who contributed to the theft of the US$1 billion. Those from the Platform “Dignity and Truth” wanted to bring the Topa brothers back home from Germany. Dodon and Usatyi wanted to stop our path to European integration. We thus had to decide whether to accept early elections or to take part in governance and save the European course,” Mihai Ghimpu said in a news conference on January 26.
The Liberal leader said the people in that period were reasonably angry, but the decision not to go towards early legislative elections was a correct one. Mihai Ghimpu considers the PL laid the basis of stability. He noted that we didn’t lose the European road in favor of the road to Siberia and this is the most important thing.
The Filip Government was voted in on January 20, 2016 by the votes of 20 Democratic MPs, 14 ex-Communist MPs, 13 Liberal MPs, eight Lib-Dems and two ex-Lib-Dems.
