The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu was registered as a runner in the October 30 presidential elections. A decision to this effect was taken by the Central Election Commission on September 13, IPN reports.
The Commission’s secretary Veaceslav Agrigoroae said the CEC received 870 subscription lists with 25,000 signatures collected in 28 territorial-administrative units. 85 lists were given back without being verified because the number of signatures exceeded the required minimum. “After checking the authenticity of the data from subscription lists, it was established that the required number of signatures was collected,” he stated.
Last weekend, the CEC registered the Democratic Party’s candidate for President Marian Lupu. This will top the list of candidates on the ballot.
