The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu said the Liberals from the Council for Reforming the PL, whom he calls the ‘putschists’, are supported by only three local organizations of 34. The statement was made in a news conference that involved a number of heads of local organizations of the Liberal Party, IPN reports.
Mihai Ghimpu said that acting Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru and Deputy Minister of Education Tatiana Potang assured him that they gave up the reformation idea and want to return to the party.
Contacted by IPN, Gheorghe Salaru didn’t answer the phone. Mihai Ghimpu said that the official is on a trip and will talk to the reporters when he comes back.
The head of the PL’s local organization in Straseni Lilian Carp said that the so-called reformers blackmail those from the local organizations. “We ask them to stop exerting pressure and the manipulations. We call on them to renounce their seats as this is not their work, but the work of their colleagues. They do not deserve these seats,” he stated.
Though Mihai Ghimpu said earlier that he will not accept back only three of the former colleagues – MPs Ana Gutu, Ion Hadarca, and Oleg Bodrug - today the list was extended by MP Anatol Arhire and the head of the branch in Cahul Nicolae Balcanuta.
A week ago, a group of seven MPs and a number of heads of local organizations said that they want the Liberal Party to be reformed and that Mihai Ghimpu should be replaced by Dorin Chirtoaca as party leader. They also asked returning to the negotiations on the formation of a new government. Five of the seven MPs were excluded from the party the next day.
