The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu thanked the people for the vote givem the PL and the other pro-European parties, saying this vote shows that three parties must again sit at the negotiating table and must form the Alliance for European Integration. The leader of the PL said he is convinced that this time those whom the people no longer trust will draw the necessary conclusions and will contribute to building a future for the country’s people, IPN reports.
“Moldova does not have another road than adhering to the values for which our parents and ancestors struggled. Moldova cannot follow the direction proposed by other parties. Happiness never came from that direction. Moldova is a European, democratic state with the rule of law. Time has come when the people will be indeed the government’s main concern, while the law will function equally for all Moldova’s people,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
He also said that judging by the preliminary election results, the pro-European parties will not be able to amend Article 78 of the Constitution (the electron of the head of state). Therefore, the best solution is to hold a referendum. “I’m convinced that this time the people will vote in favor of the direct election of the head of state. It is important to find understanding,” he stated.
Earlier, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat told a news conference that they are ready to form a coalition with the Democratic Party and the PL.
