The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the parliamentary commission empowered to elucidate the situation at Banca de Economii could distort the truth. He made such a statement in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

The Liberal leader said there are signals that this commission will try to shift all the blame onto the National Bank governor Dorin Dragutanu and will afterward blame him, Mihai Ghimpu, for proposing earlier Dragutanu for this post. “We haven’t been in power since 2013, while the National Bank of Moldova is an independent institution that does not obey political orders. The truth is that Premier Leanca signed that secret ordinance concerning the loan from the central bank. Not Dragutanu himself, but the Administration Board of the National Bank takes decisions. As regards the illegal transactions, the law enforcement bodies should have intervened,” he stated.

However, Mihai Ghimpu said he will vote for dismissing Dragutanu if conclusive evidence showing that he is to blame for the theft committed at Banca de Economii is presented. “I defend no one. If the commission establishes that Dragutanu is to blame in this case, the Liberal faction will for his dismissal. But I think the responsibility is borne by those who were then in power: the PLDM, PDM and my former ‘friends’. It is yet unclear why the law enforcement bodies didn’t track the money down,” he stated.

Asked by the moderator if he would accept to resume the negotiations on the formation of a government coalition with the PLDM and PDM, Ghimpu said he would do it on condition that the money is returned to Banca de Economii and those to blame are held accountable.
