A decision about the formation of a parliamentary coalition between the PL, PLDM and PDM will be taken next week, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu announced in the talk show “In death” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

“We had two meetings this week. These weren’t negotiations, but we had discussions. We haven’t yet taken a decision. This weekend, each of us will have discussions inside parties and will take decisions. I think that next week we will decide together. Until a decision whether an alliance is formed or not is taken, the press will not have access. We do not want an alliance for the sake of an alliance. We want an alliance for the people to be formed, which would be able to overcome the crisis,” said Ghimpu.

He reiterated their conditions for forming an alliance. “We want a European prosecutor, but it depends here, if the European Union supports us. A prosecutor in the EU receives about €200,000 a year. We do not have such money. No prosecutor from the EU will come to work here on our salaries. We will demand distributing the posts based on a particular formula, in accordance with the seats won by each party,” stated Ghimpu.

As to the post of head of state, the leader of the PL said this post should be controlled by a party. “The post of President is political and should be distributed to a party. We are against the direct election of the head of state. We had Presidents elected directly and know what the situation was like then. The head of state must be chosen by Parliament and the constitutional provisions defining the method of electing the President should be reviewed so that this could be voted in with a simple majority of votes,” he said.

Mihai Gimpu also said that he is against early parliamentary elections. “The country is now in a difficult situation, which is possibly more difficult than in Greece. The European course is in danger. If we have early elections, those who are financed by Moscow will come to power and there will be no European course,” he stated.
