The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu called upon the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) and the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) to sit at the negotiating table and to agree to form a parliamentary coalition because each day without government costs the country a lot, IPN reports.
“Itis unimaginable how one can be so indifferent during three weeks when the country faces such a difficult period. After the theft of the billion, the situation in Moldova became the worst ever. On November 13, the leaders of the parliamentary groups were invited to a meeting with the foreign partners. These said: “Help us to help you!”. But some do not hear, do not see and do not want to realize the situation in which we are. We are isolated from the whole world. The theft of the billion annihilated our success story and, instead of drawing conclusions, we shift the blame on each other in parts. I think the PLDM apparently is right as regards the immunity of Vlad Filat. But if the candidate for Prime Minister is not designated and the Government is not formed next week at the latest, we will face serious problems. I call on the PLDM to join in as we will have a majority together with them and the PDM. The members of the Leanca group also consider themselves pro-European and are ready to join in,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
The Liberals’ leader said early parliamentary elections could take place and the Lib-Dems would thus lose in both of the cases – neither the party will pass the election threshold nor the country will keep its European course. “We call on the PDM to change its tactics and attitude towards the Lib-Dems. The PL had been placed between the hammer and sickle during these years and the two parties now hate each other. As they entered politics and made promises to the people, they should realize that only these three parties, together with the Leanca group, can change the situation in the country,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
Liberal MP Alina Zotea said the lack of economic, political and social stability is a clear signal of the country’s stagnation. “The political class promised a better future at home to the young people. The fact that somebody today is against the formation of a pro-European alliance makes me think that they do not care about the future of the young people and about the people who voted for them. Each day without government means loss of foreign investments and funds from partners,” she stated.
Mihai Ghimpu reiterated that the PL will not form an alliance with the Communists or a minority alliance supported by these. The PL will take part in governance only together with the PDM, PLDM and the Leanca group.
