The project concerning the independence of the Republic of Moldova failed and the union with Romania is Moldova’s chance, the chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said in the program “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Ghimpu, the failure can be explained in two ways. “First of all, we didn’t have good leaders who would have led the country to welfare. Secondly, it is the blame of the Russian Federation, which blackmail us either with the price or gas or with bans,” he stated.

The politician considers the union with Romania is wanted by the ethnic minorities. “I heard a man from Gagauzia saying that he wants Moldova to unite with Romania. When I asked him why, he said he wants to have a higher pension,” said the Liberal leader.

Asked if Plahotniuc manages the country, Ghimpu gave a negative answer. “We didn’t go to Plahotniuc. He came to us. Where was Plahotniuc in 2008? He was with Voronin. In 2009 he oriented himself to the pro-European parties. Should I have abandoned the European road and followed the Tambov road?” he asked.

Mihai Ghimpu said the ruling alliance made considerable progress. “Things go well. Political stability was ensured. The relations with the European Union were reestablished. An agreement with the IMF will be signed. One should be an enemy to say that things go bad,” he stated.
