“A day will come when the human rights will be observed in Transnistria as well,” Acting President and Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu said in his speech delivered at the European Conference of Heads of Parliament held in Lamassol, Cyprus, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Parliament. “The empires come and go, but the values related to the human rights and fundamental freedoms remain for ever,” Mihai Ghimpu said. He stressed that Moldova makes effort to prevent and eliminate discrimination. The human rights action plan for 2010–2013 represents a national instrument for reproducing the state policies aimed at ensuring the protection or human rights and at bringing about positive changes, the Speaker said. Mihai Ghimpu also said that a study is now made on the opportunity of Moldova ratifying Protocol No.12 to the Convention for the Protection of the Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and of joining the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. “The Republic of Moldova does not set long-term objectives, but takes steps to make the guaranteeing of the human rights a real exercise not a simple statement,“ Ghimpu said. About 350 delegates from 47 counties, including member states of the Council of Europe and countries with the status of observers at the PACE, took part in the European Conference of Heads of Parliament.
