The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu voiced hope that the Moldovans voted to keep the European course for Moldova’s future. “I hope tomorrow we will hear that Europe won,” he said in a news conference held after the closure of the polling places in the country, IPN reports.
“Moldova has a future only within the EU and NATO. We can have a developed economy only if we have access to the EU market. Peace and security is possible only under the umbrella of NATO. Europe is with us and we are with Europe,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
The leader of the PL thanked those who cast their ballots, saying democracy means elections. He also thanked those who voted for the PL, for integration into the EU and NATO, and those who realized that democracy is based on the political parties. He expressed his optimism about the election outcome, noting that if he hadn’t been an optimist, he wouldn’t have been in politics.
