The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu does not rule out the possibility of forming a post-electoral alliance with the Communist Party (PCRM), if its leader Vladimir Voronin radically changes his views. Mihai Ghimpu made such an announcement in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

The Liberal leader expressed his conviction that three pro-European parties will enter Parliament as a result of the November 30 elections – the PL, PLDM and PDM that will continue the pro-European course – as well as the PCRM. Ghimpu said he will form a post-electoral alliance with the PDM, while with the PCRM it will work together only if Voronin recognizes the Romanian language and identity and the fact that Moldova is occupied by Russia.

Mihai Ghimpu reiterated that the PL will field the party’s deputy chairman Dorin Chirtoaca for the post of Prime Minister.

As to his pro-NATO option, the Liberal leader said the status of neutrality cannot be preserved when a foreign army is present on the country’s territory, while the events in Ukraine show how necessary the protection of NATO is. “Such states as Poland, Bulgaria and the Baltic countries, which had to deal with Russia, joined NATO and are now safe. Our state cannot ensure the people’s security in case of a foreign invasion, while NATO, besides peace, also means welfare as the flow of foreign investments is higher to a country that is a member of this organization,” he stated.

Mihai Ghimpu noted that Russia found a new method of controlling and invading Moldova, namely by helping pro-Russian parties to come to power. “There is no need to use the tanks to conquer us. They have to simply finance parties headed by people loyal to them and then, when these parties come to power, to pursue the Kremlin’s policy in this country,” he said.
