The Alliance for European Integration 3 (AEI-3) will not fall apart owing to the arrest of Vlad Filat, the chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu said in the program “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.

“The alliance didn’t die. It is not made of concrete, but it exists. Vladimir Filat conceded the leadership of the PLDM to Valeriu Strelet. In a press briefing, Strelet said that he will not resign. So, the PLDM remains a ruling party. The situation is better than when there was a minority ruling coalition,” said the Liberals’ leader.

Ghimpu also said that the situation is not so serious even if the AEI-3 remained without a parliamentary majority following the arrest of Filat. “Filat was deprived of parliamentary immunity, not yet of his seat. We are now 50 MPs in the AEI-3. But there are also the independent MPs who said that they will vote the laws needed for the country’s prosperity and the European integration,” said the leader of the PL.

Mihai Ghimpu stated that all those to blame for the large-scale thefts committed in the banking system should be held accountable and denied having been involved in fraudulent stealing schemes. “We have warned about the thefts committed at Banca de Economii for five years. It’s good that the judiciary was allowed to do its duty, while Filat was allowed to prove his innocence. Nobody is above the law. I stole only once in my life. When I was a kid, I stole a corn cob and my mother told me to take it back. If I had stolen, I would have been the richest man if taking into account the period of time during which I have been in politics. I do not have palaces, planes and shops. I have a filling station that I built with the money obtained from selling the apartment I received as inheritance from my mother-in-law,” he said.
