A number of officials and people of culture laid flowers at Mihai Eminescu’s bust in the morning of June 15, commemorating 124 years of his death, IPN reports.

Head of Parliament Igor Corman said that Eminescu is something special for everyone. He is one of the greatest romantic poets. “On this day, it is important to remember him for his works, for what he struggled for and to render homage to him,” he stated.

Deputy Minister of Education Loretta Handrabura said that Mihai Eminescu represents the Romanian people through what he wrote and remains the symbol of the Romanian identity. She said that she can successfully reread any poem of Eminescu because she shows this exercise to students.

Writers Union chairman Arcadie Suceveanu said that he has a special attitude towards Mihai Eminescu because in our entire history, even the recent one, the fight for national renaissance is exemplified by Mihai Eminescu’s works. “Eminescu became the spiritual gospel of the Romanian people. It is our duty to read and know Eminescu. It’s not right to commemorate him on January 15 and June 15 without knowing all his works,” he stated.

The president of the Academy of Sciences Gheorghe Duca said that Mihai Eminescu’s value is priceless for our nation. He is the artist, poet and prose writer who used the word to tell the truth.

Poems of the great bard will be recited at Mihai Eminescu’s bust in the central park of Chisinau on June 15. There will be sung patriotic songs.
