A number of 76,000 students attend the schools and lyceums of Chisinau municipality, by 1,000 fewer compared with the corresponding period last year. So far this year, more than 800 students left the education institutions in order to emigrate together with the parents abroad, IPN reports, quoting statistics of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport.
“If the trend maintains, the number of students will fall by 50% towards 2050,” the Division’s head Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said in Monday’s ordinary meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked for a detailed report on the migration of students. According to him, it’s not excluded that many of the schools where there are few students will be reorganized.
As many as 5,500 students emigrated abroad together with the parents over the last five years.
