The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, at the meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Skopje, said the Republic of Moldova is an arena of the confrontation between the West and Russia, calling it the “next victim” of the anti-Russian policy. In reaction, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova said that the Republic of Moldova follows the irreversible European path and today more than ever insists on the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Russian troops from its territory, IPN reports.

Igor Zakharov, adviser on communication to Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu, said that since the outbreak of the gross Russian invasion of Ukraine, the whole arsenal of destabilization attempts that Russia made against the state has been felt in Moldova. Russia’s statements, either the current ones or those made on other occasions, form part of the series of hostile measures that the Russian Federation has sought to take against the Republic of Moldova over the past 30 years. “Fortunately, throughout this period, the partner states from the West have stood by us, helping us to successfully overcome these threats,” noted the adviser.

“Given that Minister Lavrov reached yet the OSCE ministerial meeting, we hope that he will also understand our clear and trenchant message – the Republic of Moldova follows the irreversible European path and today more than ever we insist on the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Russian troops from our territory.”
