A new subdivision in charge of the delivery of foreign assistance is being constituted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, IPN reports.

“We this way align ourselves with the recommendations of the European Union, seeking to develop international cooperation policies and programs. At present, Moldova does not have specific legislation on development and does not officially offer assistance to other nations even if we already became actively involved in the solving of particular regional programs. Here, we can mention our contribution to the humanitarian assistance for Ukraine and in the management of natural disasters, such as the earthquakes in Turkey,” said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

According to the official, the new subdivision will be responsible for designing an official development assistance program. “Even if we continue to receive more assistance than we will be able to offer, we are determined to assume an active role in overcoming different crises. These efforts will enable us to offer external support and to strengthen cooperation with national and international partners, contributing this way to our path to the European Union and preparing for the status of EU member,” said Nicu Popescu.
