The village Merenesti of Slobozia district, which is situated in the Transnistrian region, has been flooded by the Nistru River. The levee built near the settlement burst and the water reached the holiday resort “Dnestrovskie Zori”, IPN reports, quoting the social protection services of the region.
On April 18-19, the Nistru waters advanced close to the village. The servicemen and rescuers built barrages near houses and fields. The water reached the main pathway of the holiday resort in Merenesti and several basements and garages. In order to prevent the situation from worsening, the rescuers are reinforcing the levees with more sacks with sand.
The Transnistrian region’s administration said that the risk of floods on the Nistru now diminished.
The State Hydrometeorology Service has issued a yellow code advisory for April 15-20 in connection with the releases of water from the accumulation lake Dnestrovsk up to the volume of 1,400 m3/s.
