The Parliament of Moldova must take all the necessary legislative measures and adjust the electoral legislation to the European standards and recommendations of the Venice Commission. Such a statement was made by the Social-Democratic MEP Victor Bostinaru at the "Parliamentary Conference on European Neighbourhood Policy - Eastern Part" on June 5, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release sent by the MEP to the agency.
“The countries that form part of the European Neighborhood Policy should work together on the European project that is bi-partisan in manner. The parties in power should better consult with the Opposition parties so as to guarantee stability, predictability and continuity apart from political changes,” said Victor Bostinaru, who is a member of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with the Countries from South Eastern Europe.
Speaking about the present situation in Moldova, the MEP stressed that the Moldovan authorities must insure a democratic management of the public affairs, by observing the rights of the Opposition and insuring their access to public broadcasters. "I hope that the Moldovan authorities will stick to the democratic principle of free elections and will guarantee fair parliamentary elections the next year,” Bostinaru said.
High-level officials from EU institutions and countries that are included in the European Neighborhood Policy attended the conference in Brussels. Moldova was represented by Deputy Speaker Maria Postoico.
