MEP Siegfried Muresan, who is a member of the EU-Moldova Delegation, in a meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, told Prime Minister Pavel Filip that a pro-European government is needed in Chisinau, given the multiple benefits of the rapprochement with the EU for the Moldovan people. He also told the Moldovan official that a government is not pro-European if it only says this, but also if it implements the Association Agreement with the EU, IPN reports.

“I noted that the Government of the Republic of Moldova adopted a roadmap for implementing the Association Agreement and that the first point on the list refers to corruption fighting. I wanted yet to know exactly from Prime Minister Pavel Filip what the Government does precisely to improve the functioning of the Integrity Commission and the National Anticorruption Center, specifically what laws it approved and how it monitors their implementation,” Siegfrid Muresan wrote on a social networking site.

The MEP also said that he inquired what the Government does as a result of the massive fraud committed in the banking system, more exactly what it does to fully recover the damage. “In this case, I also asked if it plans to cooperate with EU institutions that have experience in combating fraud and tax evasion. In connection with the bank fraud, I also asked to present the measures that will be taken to restore the foreign investors’ confidence in the banking system and to improve bank surveillance and make sure that the National Bank of Moldova is politically independent. Only with the election of a new government, spring does not come in the banking sector,” said Siegfrid Muresan.

He noted that he asked Pavel Filip to depict the economic situation in Chisinau given that the national currency depreciated, the inflation reached a record high for the last few years, while foreign investment decreased. But the Premier only told him that the Government proposed legislation, but said nothing about the content of those bills and what concrete measures are being taken. Therefore, Siegfrid Muresan felt disappointed.
