MEP Sabin Cutas, of the Social-Democratic Party + the Conservative Party, who is a member of the European Parliament Committee on International Trade (INTA), was named rapporteur on social assistance matters for Moldova on behalf of the Social-Democrat MEPs, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from Sabin Cutas' office.
The European Commission proposed allocating €90 million to Moldova to help it implement structural reforms. Cutas approved of the proposal given that Moldova aspires to become a EU member. He stressed that Moldova needs support at political level, in facilitating trade and obtaining a liberalized visa regime.
“I welcome the European Commission's decision to provide financial support to Moldova, which is in a fragile political and economic situation. Moldova covered a difficult path to democracy and initiated important reforms, stating its intention to join the EU. Immediate assistance is needed to ensure the stability of the democratic Government and encourage reforms,” Sabin Cutas said.
The European Socialists and Democrats form the second largest political family in the European Parliament of 2009-2014. It consists of 184 members.
