The national U-18 men’s basketball team of Moldova ranked second at the European Basketball Championship, Division C that took place in Andorra. In the decisive match, the ‘tricolors’ were beaten by San Marino 103-100, failing thus to win the continental title, IPN reports.
The basketball players trained by Oleg Dical defeated their opponents in the groups stage, but San Marino performed better in the final. The players from San Marino secured a comfortable advantage at the end of the third set, but Moldova recovered spectacularly and tied towards the end of the game. Moldova lost in overtime after leading by 100-94.
As in the previous matches, Vladislav Solopa was the best in the Moldovan team. The 18-year-old sportsman was named the best scorer of the competition after scoring 50 points.
In the groups stage, Moldova scored victories against Wales 83-82 and San Marino 90-55, while in the semifinals beat Andorra 83-67.
In the 2007 and 2011 editions of the Division C European U-18 Championship, Moldova finished third.
