“Take a stand! Say no to violence against women”. This is the slogan of a movement comprised of men who aim at diminishing the phenomenon of domestic violence. Causeni District Prosecutor Ion Oboroceanu was the first to issue a protection order for a woman, and the one who launched the “Men against violence” movement, reports Info-Prim Neo. Ion Oboroceanu says that out of the 49 protection orders issued this year, 18 have been violated. Experience shows that the perpetrators, who are required to stay away for a certain period from their home or family, often leave the country to work abroad, but are violent again once their return. The prosecutor says that it is insufficient to restrict perpetrators from getting close their victims, they must also be worked with. Ion Oboroceanu noted the importance of involving the civil society, which can take a stand and help perpetrators rehabilitate. “If we believe that we can solve domestic violence cases without assisting the aggressors, we are bitterly mistaken. For this reason, I want to develop the “Men against violence” campaign. Anyone can join this cause”, said Ion Oboroceanu. A series of the movement's actions will take place on November 25 to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Oboroceanu says that it is not right to simply drive the aggressors away from home and isolate them from their family. “If they'd notice that someone cares for them and proposes them to re-socialize, they would change. It so happened that we have a 69-year-old aggressor and a 64-year-old victim; we had to work to find the cause of the violence that sparked after 40 years of peaceful living”, said the prosecutor during a investigation journalists' club meeting. According to statistics, 28% of women have suffered some form of violence during their lives. Meanwhile, every other woman states to have undergone some form of isolation check from men.
