Memories about heroes can be expressed by erecting monuments in their honour: President

The memory of the heroes of the Great War for the Defence of Homeland can be expressed by means of monuments erected in their honour and this is first of all a contribution to the moral future and programme of the society, President of Moldova Valdimir Voronin told the event dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of Moldova from fascist occupation, organised at the Memorial from Sherpeni. “The hundreds of monuments erected to the memory of those who died in the war, monuments which were rebuilt all over Moldova, are an irrefutable proof in this regard. We are proud of the fact that Moldova is the way it is today, grateful, that it does not forget anything and that it is free” Voronin said. According to him, the Memorial from Sherpeni has truly become a monument of the entire people, where one can come not only to remember the heroic deeds, but also to compare the majesty of those heroic deeds with the moral standards of the present days. Already for several years the high officials of Moldova honour the heroes of the Second World War at the Sherpeni Memorial.
