A memorial complex dedicated to victims of political repression was inaugurated in Causeni town on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the second wave of deportations marked on July 6, which was decreed a morning day, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.
Attending the event, President Nicolae Timofti spoke about the tragic consequences of the deportations for the population. “By fully assuming the past, we keep alive the memory of moments that made the history of a state,” he noted.
By a presidential decree signed on July 1, July 6 was declared a Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism. Thus, at 10am, a moment’s silence was observed in memory of those who went through the ordeal of deportations. At the end, Nicolae Timofti voiced hope that such tragic moments will never repeat.
On July 6, it is 67 years of the second, largest wave of deportations, when 35,700 people were displaced.
