More than 20 members of the Chisinau municipal organization of the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) left the party in order to join the Democratic Party (PDM). According to them, this step is taken in response to the Democratic leader Marian Lupu’s call to the small parties to join the Democrats so as to prevent the wasting of voters and of human resources, IPN reports.

“Why the Democratic Party? First of all because it is a powerful party that over the last five years showed ability to govern. Secondly, because we care and want to become involved, not to stay aside. We live in an endangered area and the votes for the small parties that have no chances in elections are lost votes. Moreover, we consider that these are dangerous votes,” said Vasile Grama, who headed the Chisinau municipal organization of the PLR. According to him, the final decision was taken as a result of consultations with representatives of the PDM, especially Pavel Filip, who heads the municipal organization of the Democrats.

According to Grigore Ambrosi, head of the Association of Automotive Engineers of Moldova, the advantages of the Democratic Party reside in the democracy existing inside the PDM and in the pragmatic and balanced policies aimed at protecting the national interests, pursued by the party. The PDM will be able to maintain the country’s European course.

“Within the PLR, we created a very good team. We were responsible for Rascani sector and for four suburban settlements of Chisinau. We wanted and demanded more force and energy from the PLR, but nothing was done yet,” said Ion Nastas, State Guard Service lieutenant-colonel in reserve.

“Even if the PLR passes the election threshold, it does not have the potential needed to implement its platform,” said university lecturer Mihai Calalb.

According to the former members of the PLR, the Democrats didn’t promise posts or places on the list of candidates to them, while their example will be soon followed by other Liberal-Reformists.
