Historian Veaceslav Stavila, a member of the commission for studying and assessing the totalitarian Communist regime in Moldova, made public a self-lustration statement, in which he says he did not cooperate with the bodies of the former Soviet KGB. The historian calls on all his colleagues in the commission to do the same, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communique, Veaceslav Stavila says he made the announcement at the last working meeting of the commission on February 20.
The historian urged the other members of the commission to make written statements in which to declare that they had not been informers of the Soviet secret police. Stavila said his call remained unheard so far.
The commission for studying and assessing the totalitarian Communist regime in Moldova was set up on January 14 under a decree issued by Moldova's Acting President Mihai Ghimpu. It is composed of 30 persons.
