Interiors Minister Valentin Mejinschi leaves his current post to become Deputy Prime Minister dealing with matters of corruption and combating of illegal migration and trafficking in human beings, as announced today by President Vladimir Voronin at the meeting of the National Commission for European Integration, Info-Prim Neo reports. Voronin said he signed today both decrees discharging Mejinschi from the current office and appointing him as Deputy Premier, adding that the Interiors Minister's seat would not stay vacant for long. Vladimir Voronin avoided naming a successor to Mejinschi, saying that the nomination remains PM Zinaida Greceanyi's privilege. Valentin Mejinschi was named Interiors Minister on 31 March 2008 following a Cabinet reshuffle. Earlier, he had been the director of the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption since 2004.
