The meeting of the President of Moldova Igor Dodon and the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski is perceived differently by political analysts. Some consider this is a find aimed at saving the image of Igor Dodon amid the Government’s latest accomplishments. Others say these achievements are actually due to President Dodon, IPN reports.

Expert in political sciences Boris Shapovalov, in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, said both Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselski realized the importance of looking for a compromise. The Transnistrians realize that their future depends on the parliamentary elections that will take place in Moldova at the end of this year. “If a normal majority with logical thinking, with a good country development project and a normal position on the Russian Federation, and, respectively, on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict comes to power, things could improve. If the current unionist majority remains in power, tensions will persist,” he stated.

Political analyst Roman Mihaes stated the Russian Federation helped Igor Dodon to meet with Vadim Krasnoselski because Moscow is envious of the results achieved by the Government of Moldova in restoring the relations with the Transnistrian administration. “This refers to the Moldovan-administered Romanian-language schools, the bridge in Gura Bicului, the phone networks, the license numbers,” stated the analyst. According to him, this meeting can be regarded as an improvement in the image of President Dodon amid the Government’s accomplishments in the Transnistrian issue.

Jurist Sergei Mishin said these accomplishments are actually not due to the Government, but to President Dodon, who earlier also had meetings with Vadim Krasnoselski. According to him, the fact that these documents were signed by the Government is something usual as this is one of the duties of the executive power.

In a meeting in Bender on April 25, Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselski discussed the necessity of ensuring the real free movement of people between the sides of the Nistru and the situation of the joint peacekeeping mission on the Nistru, which is a guarantee of peace and security of the people, this being an important constitutive element of the political dialogue, according to President Dodon.
