Moldova produces 25-30% of the 10-12 million kWh of electric power consumed by the residents of the right bank of the Nistru River. The power is produced by natural gas-fueled generators, Prime Minister Vlad Filat informed at the opening of the 36th meeting of the CIS Electric Energy Council taking place in Chisinau today, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Premier, the country’s stabile economic development and energy security is impossible without own energy resources. The diversification of the electric power and natural gas sources is one of the priorities of the Government of Moldova. Another goal is to connect the national electric energy system to the European one. In 2008, the European Commission was mandated to open talks with Moldova over the provision of the statute of fully-fledged member of the European Energy Community. This objective could be achieved by 2010, Vlad Filat said. Moldova has held the presidency of the CIS Electric Energy Council this year. In 2010, the presidency will be taken over by Russia.
