After almost 13 years since the officials contacts were ceased, the Head of Moldova’s Parliament Andrian Candu had a meeting with the chairman of the self-styled Supreme Soviet of the Transnistrian region Mihail Burla in Bender, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, the meeting was organized on the initiative of Andrian Candu, with the support of the office of the OSCE Mission in Bender.  Andrian Candu and Mihail Burla discussed a number of socioeconomic subjects, including the creation of a dialogue group between the MPs, participation by the Tiraspol State University in the European higher education program “Erasmus”, extension of the intervention area of SMURD into Transnistria and mediation of the dialogue between the chambers of commerce and industry.

Another subject discussed was the importance of the common infrastructure projects, especially in the area of telephone connection, electrification of railroads and emergency medical services, as well as aspects of the foreign trade starting with January 1, 2016. Andrian Candu and Mihail Burla agreed that the first common action will take place in Chisinau and they will celebrate the International Day for Protection of Children alongside children and young people from both sides of the Nistru. The children will be able to discuss with both of them as long as these want.

“I hope very much that step by step and with less politics, we will manage to make our dialogue continuous and permanent, and many human elements will be implemented and we will afterward find solutions to other problems,” stated Andrian Candu.

Mihail Burla expressed his conviction that such meetings are absolutely necessary because namely by dialogue and communication can many problems be solved. As elected officials, the MPs must do so that the people from both banks of the Nistru live better.
