A 23-year-old Moldovan studying at one of the medicine universities in the neighboring state is suspected of sexual perversion towards minors. Prosecutor Lucretia Zaharia, of the Prosecutor General’s Office, told a news conference that the young man was remanded in custody and will stand trial, IPN reports.

The young man is suspected of sending indecent pictures and of posting photos with child pornography. The police were alerted by the parents of a nine-year-old boy, who became suspicious of the discussions their child had on a social networking site.

It was established that the young man had profiles with false identification data on several social networking sites. They were created in order to have discussions on sexual relations with minors. The man’s lists of friends included 900 teenagers aged between 9 and 14. Most of them were boys.

The police managed to stop the dissemination of about 11,000 photos and five videos with child pornography over the Internet. The young man faces three to seven years in jail over sexual perversion towards minors.

As a result of investigations, there were identified two more persons who were distributing child pornography over the Internet. Two more criminal cases were started over this case and the suspects face one to three years behind bars.

Head of the General Police Inspectorate Ion Bodrug called on the parents to be attentive to what their children do, especially during vacations. Details about the methods of protecting the children on the Internet are available on www.siguronline.md.

The Center for Combating Cybercrime recommends the parents to verify children’s lists of friends on social networking sites. If the name Andrei Fedorenko is found, with the name andreika1922 on Skype, they are asked to phone 078710293, (022) 577-177 or 902.
