Dafina Gercheva, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova, said the training courses that will be conducted at the center will enable health professionals to gain new knowledge, continuously improve their professional skills, ensure that the health services provided by them meet international standards.

Director of Swiss Cooperation Office Caroline Tissot noted that with the launch of the new Training Centre, a team of local trainers ready to coach professionals of the maternities from the left bank of the Nistru River is made available.

“Medical practice is constantly changing. So, doctors should continuously improve their professional skills. We aim to decrease the number of risk situations for mother and child,” said Natalia Slepukha, Chief Doctor of the Mother and Child Center in Tiraspol.

In 2017, in Transnistria there were born 4,572 children.

Transnistria has implemented regionalization of perinatal assistance with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the United Nations and the European Union. Starting with 2013, trainings on new medical standards were organized for medical workers, and five delivery units were refurbished and equipped in Tiraspol, Bender, Ribnita, Slobozia and Grigoriopol.
