Medical equipment purchased by WHO to be distributed to 56 institutions in Moldova

Medical equipment bought by the World Health Organization (WHO) is being distributed to 56 public health facilities in Moldova. The Ștefan Vodă District Hospital is one of the beneficiaries that today received a part of this assistance, IPN reports.

The Ștefan Vodă District Hospital received two vital signs monitors, an assisted ventilation machine, an anesthesia machine, an operating table and a mobile lamp. Victor Pelin, the hospital’s acting director, said the new technologies are indispensable for the efficient monitoring of patients, for increasing the quality of medical assistance provided to patients with medical urgencies. With the help of this equipment, the doctors can determine a series of vital parameters and, based on them, will decide the appropriate therapeutic conduct that will increase the chances of saving patients in a serious state.

Another 33 district hospitals, 13 national medical institutions and nine municipal institutions will yet get devices. The lot includes equipment for grownups and children – 44,000 oxygen masks and 22,000 nasal cannulas. Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said the national institutions will benefit from 100 vital signs monitors, 30 operating tables, 10 assisted ventilation machines, 10 mobile lamps and 15 anesthesia machines. The donations are passed on based on assessments so that the institutions receive the equipment they need.

Valeriu Sava, coordinator of the Health Program of the Swiss Cooperation Office, said the donation is of major significance as it shows solidary between the international partners, the development partners and those who are daily on duty. Switzerland is proud to form part of this team that contributes to strengthening and developing Moldova’s health system and the country in general. The Government of Switzerland, the Swiss Cooperation Office will further support the health system and are ready to launch new procurement procedures for these investments to produce results in the form of services of a higher quality and more accessible services.

Miljana Grbic, WHO Representative in the Republic of Moldova, said the medical equipment that was donated to meet the needs of patients from Moldova and of refugees will generate better results following surgeries and will have a positive effect on the whole.

The equipment to the value of US$978 285 was purchased with financial support from the U.S. Government, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
