Thanks to the EU support, inhabitants from Gura Bicului and Bicioc villages will enjoy improved services in the local Family Medical Center. In Gura Bicului village, Anenii Noi district, the health facility that assists people from both banks of the Nistru River was refurbished in the framework of the EU-funded Support to Confidence Building Measures Program, implemented by the UNDP, IPN reports.
According to a press release of UNDP, the Family Medical Center provides medical services for 3,600 locals and over 800 people living in Bicioc village on the left bank.
“The Family Medical Center was built in the ’80s. Since then, the building has never been refurbished due to financial constraints. The roof, doors, windows and all engineering networks: electricity, sewerage and water supply, as well as the heating systems got damaged,” said Lilia Brehova, mayor of Gura Bicului village.
With €171,060 provided by the EU, equivalent of the village’s annual budget, extensive reconstruction works were conducted at the health facility. Taking into consideration the importance of the center, the community contributed €2,223.
Since 2009, within the EU-funded Support to Confidence Building Measures Program, over 80 social institutions from both banks were refurbished or reconstructed, outfitted with equipment and furniture. Seventeen of these are health facilities.
