The medical assistants of education institutions could work under family doctors centers, not under the principals. Such a proposal was formulated by the special commission for improving the legal framework on the alimentation of children in kindergartens and schools, which presented a report in Parliament on March 24, IPN reports.

The initiative authors consider that when these are under the direction of the institutions’ administration, the medical assistants can be influenced in the decision concerning the quality of food products in the reception process as they form part of the commission that accepts food products.

When presenting the report, the commission’s chairman Radu Mudreac said that fact-finding visits were paid to education institutions in a number of districts. As a result, unfit food products were identified. Some of the sanitary facilities are in a deplorable state. The economic interests prevail and the process of supplying products of a high quality is thus affected.

The commission recommended creating food combines under the local public authorities and centralizing the bidding contests to choose suppliers of food products to schools and kindergartens.

Under the draft decision, the Prosecutor General’s Office will present in Parliament information about the actions taken to investigate the rigged bidding contests to choose suppliers and about those who were held accountable within two months.

The special commission was set up after 16 persons, nine of whom public functionaries of education divisions, were arrested on November 16 last year on charges of fixing bidding contests for purchasing food products for schools and kindergartens of Chisinau and favoring particular business entities that supplied products of a poor quality.
