Persons with disabilities from 13 villages in Orhei and Cimislia districts will benefit from medical and social care at home. The project is implemented by the Agapedia Foundation, with the support of the Robert Bosch Foundation from Germany. Catinca Mardarovici, chair of the Agapedia Foundation, said that these services in Moldova are still in their infancy, being developed only within some programs. “With the help of this program we seek to develop these services and have them included in our state’s system”, Catinca Mardarovici said at a press conference. Domiciliary care will be provided by specialized persons, not necessarily medical assistants. “The expected result is the improvement of quality of life for the persons with disabilities, handicaps or in convalescence”, mentioned the Agapedia Foundation chairman. Prime Minister Vlad Filat, present at the project’s launch, has declared that the state alone doesn’t have the capacity to succeed in implementing these services, so that these actions must be realized in partnership with the associative sector. Liliana Palihovici, president of the Comission for Social Protection, healthcare and family, has declared that a new financing project will be proposed regarding the social services. “We are talking about a public-private partnership for the development of the social-medical services. I know it is a law expected by the entire sector and that this would allow us to have an improvement of these services”, she said. In Moldova, there are over 30000 persons that require domiciliary care, 6000 children needing permanent attention. The Agapedia Foundation is an NGO that aims for improving the life of socially vulnerable children and families by implementing social projects. The value of the social-medical domiciliary care project is about 150000 euros.
