Media NGOs protest against attacks on journalists

Media nongovernmental organizations protest against the attacking of a crew of the TV channel Publika TV in Calarasi on December 7, while it was producing a report on a church scandal in the town, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Dissatisfied that he was filmed and not liking the questions put to him, the person who is allegedly the lawyer of the Moldovan Metropolitan Church treated rudely the reporter and the cameraman and then pushed the journalist. The incident happened in a public place, in the presence of several police officers, but they did not intervene,” the media NGOs say in a press statement. The NGOs consider this is an intolerable case in a democratic society and ask the law enforcement bodies to investigate it objectively and transparently. They also demand punishing the persons who intimidated the team of journalists and call on the Ministry of the Interior to hold an internal inquiry into the behavior of the police officers who witnessed the incident. The statement was signed by the Independent Journalism Center, the Association of Independent Press, the Electronic Press Association, the Committee for the Freedom of the Press, the Journalistic Investigations Center, Acces-Info Center, and the Journalists Union.
