A module for assessing the media portals called PressCheck was launched today by the Media–Guard Association. In a press release, the Association says the module will help the media consumers to better understand the media market in the Republic of Moldova and will be able to choose credible sources that obey the journalistic and transparency norms, IPN reports.
The PressCheck project centers on a list of criteria based on which experts and reporters assess the portals, finally presenting a score of 0 to 10, where 10 means the media outlet basically respects the deontological norms. The assessors, who are experienced journalists and media experts, use ten assessment criteria.
For now, there were selected 12 media portals with the largest audience. The rankings of the websites with maximum audience were taken from the Audit Bureau of Circulation and Internet of Moldova (BATI). The assessments presented now on PressCheck were carried out based on the audience of March 2021. Later, there will be included other media outlets, at the suggestion of the community or based on requests.
Media-Guard noted the reassessment and adjustment of assessments is possible and welcome. The assessed editorial staffs can present information about how the shortcomings were dealt with and the experts of the project will assess and adjust the scores, if necessary. Requests can be transmitted to the email address info@mediaguard.ngo.
The list of assessed media outlets now contains 12 portals, namely: Știri.md, Point.md, TV8.md, ZdG.md, NewsMaker.md, Noi.md, ProTV.md, Diez.md, Sputnik.md, Unimedia.info, Kp.md and Deschide.md.
