European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines (EDQM) experts have submitted to Moldovan authorities a set of recommendations for adjusting the National Laboratory for Medication Quality Control to the requirements of the European network of laboratories in this field. As IPN learned from the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (AMDM), the recommendations will have to be implemented until the end of the summer, and following a re-assessment the Chisinau laboratory will become a member of the European network.
According to AMDM, cooperating with the network will help avoid duplicate efforts, and ensure access to the latest technologies. The European network member status allows for reciprocal acknowledgement, within the EU, of national lab tests, standardizing work methods within the network through the implementation and maintenance of a quality management system.
An order to uphold its member status, the national laboratory will have to prove its scientific expertise periodically, and prove independence from commercial organizations. The objective of the European network is to support authorities in the field of medication quality control towards the benefit of the patient, and to allow local pharmaceutic producers to increase their presence on the European market.
The EDQM experts visited Chisinau in early October. The official medicines control lab network was created to facilitate experience exchange between labs, as well as for the promotion and development of common standards.
